While Sarita had been struggling alone to support her small family, she became a part of the Building Strong Families program and soon gained new opportunities and friends.
Sarita lives in Chhampi, Nepal with her husband and daughter. She had been working on other people’s farms for many years and received a small daily wage but it wasn't enough to meet all the needs of her daughter and family.
During this challenging time of her life, Sarita received an opportunity to become a part of the Building Strong Families (BSF) program. She learned many new things during the BSF training days and family fun days and was able to implement those to see a positive change in her family.
Sarita was also a skillful vegetable farmer and had always wanted to have her own farm. She began discussing and researching ways with BSF staff to establish a vegetable farm which would provide a sustainable income for her family. After a few months, BSF was able to help Sarita see her dream become a reality.
BSF supported Sarita to secure a four year lease so she could have her own farming land, and also provided a 'shade tunnel' (like a greenhouse without sides) so she can grow her vegetables throughout the year. Sarita has already begun growing crops in her own field and is well on the way to sustainably supporting her family from her very own produce.
Sarita said, “I remember in the past when I had to do everything on my own and it was really difficult for me. But since I have been a part of the BSF program and community, I feel like I have found a supportive friend who has helped bring so much positive change in my life and family.”
