Standing on Top of the World

Nepal is home to some of the highest mountain peaks in the world. If you want to go and stand on top of the world, Nepal is the place to do it. Bizula is a widow and BSF beneficiary from Nepal, who feels like she is standing on top of the world after a wonderful new opportunity she has been given.

Bizula lives in Jharuwarashi with her daughter and son. Her world came crashing down after her husband tragically passed away. She was left alone to look after her two children. Without a job or any educational qualifications, Bizula became a manual labourer to support her family of three.

Bizula worked on construction sites on a daily wage to earn a living for her family. Every day was a struggle to try to earn enough to put food on their table.

Since she did not own any property, Bizula had been renting a small piece of land and built a tiny house there for her and her two children.

After hearing of her desperate needs and her desire to keep her children in a family, BSF invited Bizula and her family to join the program in Jharuwarashi. After a lot of discussion and planning, BSF learned that Bizula had experience in raising livestock since she grew up in an agricultural family. Bizula decided she would like to raise pigs to support her children and developed a small-business plan with BSF.

After helping Bizula to build an enclosure for her pigs, BSF provided her with three little piggies to get started. Bizula was ecstatic and felt like she was on top of the world! She had found some hope again and was looking forward to expanding her little drove of pigs to better meet the needs of her family.

Bizula said, “I can’t thank the BSF team enough for helping my family to develop holistically, and especially for the livelihood support. I will go the extra mile to take good care of my pigs and develop this business for my children."
