Two different stories about two inspiring young people from our BSF project in Nepal. While only in their teens, Sagun and Prajwal share an incredible resilience and determination to succeed in their education, despite the challenges they both face.
Sagun (left), delighted to receive her school books
Sagun is 14 years old and lives with her mother, older sister and younger brother in Chhampi, Nepal. Due to the Covid-19 pandemic, her school was closed and all of her classes were moved online. Sagun found it difficult to follow the online classes and do her homework because her family didn't have money to buy the specific school books she needed. Sagun's mother contacted Alisha, the BSF Chhampi project coordinator, who quickly arranged for the books she needed so she could continue her online schooling.
Upon receiving her books, Sagun said, "During this difficult situation, BSF has helped me to continue my studies. I want to study hard and become a well-educated woman so that I can help to look after my mother.” With such inspiring motivation and determination, we are likely to see Sagun's dreams become a reality in the future.
Prajwal (right)
Prajwal is 17 years old and is the eldest son in his family. He successfully passed Grade 10 and had a desire to continue his high school studies. However, due to poverty and the financial hardships the family faced, his mother could not afford to pay the admission fee to enter high school. She tried many ways to raise money for her son to enter high school, including trying to borrow money from others, but no one would help her. Finally, her relatives leant her some money but it was only half what she needed for her son. She desperately needed to find the other half of Prajwal's admission fees.
When the BSF project coordinator came to know about the families challenge and need, educational support was arranged through BSF for Prajwal’s remaining admission fees. Within a week, Prajwal was able to enrol into Grade 11 in his Management course. By partnering together with the family and sharing the admission costs, Prajwal's full enrolment fees for the year were covered.
Now, Prajwal is attending online classes and is very happy to be enrolled in Grade 11. He has big dreams to achieve higher education and get a great job so he can help to look after his mother, grandmother, and his younger brother.
Both Sagun and Prajwal have an admirable determination to succeed in their studies and a passion to help take good care of their families. They are two truly inspiring young people! BSF is also beginning to work with each of their families to assist them to develop sustainable livelihoods. Over the 18months of the project, our shared goal with each BSF family is that they will eventually be able to provide for their own needs and the educational needs of their children themselves.
Through your assistance, BSF is pleased to be able to support the educational aspirations and dreams of Sagun, Prajwal, and many other children in our BSF projects . Thank you for partnering with us to make this all possible.
